Scholarship Spotlight: Fisher House Foundation Scholarships

Scholarships for dependents and children of U.S. Army soldiers are available through the Fisher House Foundation.

Heroes' Legacy Scholarships
$1,500 scholarships are available to children of active duty, Reserve, Guard, retired, and fallen U.S. Military service members, specifically those who have died or become disabled in battle since September 11, 2001. Those applying for scholarships must be unmarried, under 23 years of age and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

What You Should Know About the Army College Loan Repayment Program

A special enlistment incentive offered to qualified applicants, the Army College Loan Repayment Program pays one-third of qualifying student loans for each year of full-time duty served. The program will contribute up to $65,000 toward eligible loans for enrolled active-duty Soldiers, with some funds also available to the National Guard and the Reserve. This student loan assistance can be a significant benefit for qualifying Soldiers.

Army Promotes STEM Careers at National Society of Black Engineers Convention

College students at the 40th annual National Society of Black Engineers Convention in Nashville, TN last month had the opportunity to meet with U.S. Army representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers, West Point Military Academy, ROTC, and Army recruiters -- all with the goals of discussing Army career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

Shooting at Fort Hood leaves 4 dead, 16 wounded

A shooting on April 2 at Fort Hood has left 4 soldiers dead, 16 injured, and a base both looking back to 2009 and eager to move forward.

According to Stripes.com a single soldier opened fire in a transportation and medical building, killing and wounding several soldiers until he was confronted by the on-base MPs, and turned his gun on himself.
